Alibaba and the World are Connected for Globalization

In the morning of July 18, 2017 (US Eastern Time), prior to the start of the China-US Entrepreneurs Summit, Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba Group's board of directors, said at a press briefing that the entrepreneurship between China and the United States is of great importance for the relations between the two countries. Entrepreneurs can use their wisdom and expertise to provide constructive advice to the trade between the two countries. Ma said, “We are here to solve the problems of the future but not to solve the problems of yesterday. We should not impose sanctions on the issues of yesterday, and we must look to the future and the whole world because the world is already connected.”

Jack Ma believes, “In the past few decades, the relations between China and the United States have gone far beyond simple trade and investment relations. They go far beyond the level of 'Made in the USA' or 'Made in China'. There are deeper commercial relations between China and the United States and the two countries are fully integrated in terms of capital, personnel, and creativity. In the future, the two countries will not care about which country the products are from, but care about how to make more connections through the Internet.”

When there are disagreements in the areas of trade and investment, Ma believes that the government should be encouraged to effectively resolve the issue by using the existing mechanisms and based on mutual respect. The broader cooperation in economy and trade between China and the United States is “not only crucial to the bilateral relations between China and the United States, but also important to the whole world”.

Companies like Alibaba and Amazon are already parts of globalisation. They benefit from globalisation and also promote globalisation themselves. The Financial Times had previously commented that if globalisation could give birth, it would give birth to twins, one is called Alibaba and the other one is called Amazon. Therefore, there is no other e-commerce company more willing than these two to see the deepening of globalisation.
